HOME DECOR DIY: Painted Rainbow Doormat

I saw this unfinished scalloped doormat at JoAnn and knew it needed to be rainbow painted. The scallops make the perfect clouds. I used DecoArt Outdoor Living paints to paint this doormat. This paint is made for outdoor spaces. It's water and weather proof. I also like that should this doormat need touching up, I don't have to mix colors. I can just dip my paintbrush into the jar and paint the rug. If your home needs some refreshing outdoors, also check out the DecoArt Curb Appeal paint line. Lots of durable colors made for your door and other outdoor decor.

SUPPLIES:
DecoArt provided me with the paint for this project. I'm a member of the DecoArt Blogger Outreach program. I use Amazon Affiliate links. Any purchases made using those links will result in Amazon paying me a small commission. This doesn't affect your total purchase.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Shake the paint jars well. Dip your paintbrush right into the jar. Mark out the rainbow lines with the white Outdoor Living paint and a sturdy paintbrush. Later, I adjusted the lines to accommodate 8 colors. Rinse the brush in the cup of water and dry the brush with a paper towel.

2) Fill in the rainbow with each paint color. We found that pouncing the brush and keeping the brush heavily loaded with paint worked out best to get the paint into the doormat texture. Make sure to paint the edges too. Rinse and dry the paintbrush between colors.

3) Put the rug outside to dry in a covered area.

Obviously I love rainbow colors and this rug actually has deeper meaning for our family. Of course rainbows are a symbol of the LGBTQ+ community, of which my daughter and I are part of, and my husband is an ally. I started this blog (which reached 10 years this March!) making gothic anatomy artwork, starting a few years ago, I made rainbow art every June for LGBTQ+ pride month. Then a few years later, I started making more colorful projects and eventually incorporated rainbows into almost every personal project. Colorful work is so cheerful and it's what I'm know for now, but like most artists, my work has a deeper meaning.

Speaking of new work, you should check out my new business This Bohemian Home, which I'M MAKING THINGS TO SELL! I know, haven't done that in a while. It will be a mix of my gothic and anatomy artwork and my colorful cheerful work. Cause like the Gemini I am, I have have a love for the dark and colorful...and if you've seen the baby blanket I made this month, I'll have some dark colorful items. Whatever you're making, have fun with it! Happy Makery!
