HOME DECOR DIY: Rainbow Rooster Wall Art
This rainbow rooster wall art is perfect for our remodeled retro styled kitchen. I bought the blank wood rooster from Target. I used Decoart Americana Acrylic paints to create the feathers. I'd list the colors, but there's a lot and I mixed some colors myself. I used DecoArt Glamour Dust Paints (fine glitter paint) in different colors to add sparkly feathers. As you know, I love using as many colors as possible, but you do you.

1) I used a real rooster photo for reference. I marked out color areas loosely with a pencil.
2) I used a small round brush to fill in the areas with the darkest Americana Acrylic Paint shades I picked. I feathered the colors where they met, to make adding feathers easier.
3) I worked one color group at a time, going from dark to light with two sizes of small round brushes to add layers of feathers.
4) I went back in with a fine paintbrush to define details including the beak, eye, head shape, and claws.
5) I used different Glamour Dust paint colors to add glitter feathers and details to the rooster.
6) I will seal this rooster with a Triple Thick Gloss Varnish using a flat paintbrush.
7) Using a hammer, attach the sawtooth hanger to the rooster back with the two nails.
8) Hang the rooster on the wall
Thanks to Amanda Evanston for inspiring me to make a "disco chicken". If you haven't seen Amanda's artwork, go check it out. If you live in the Chicago area, you can take one of her painting classes in person, which sometimes includes her disco chicken class. She's launching a brushless florals online class soon, so check out her Instagram for more details. I have a fruit and veggie painting and a disco chicken ornament of hers hanging in my kitchen. Of course thanks to DecoArt for providing me with their paints. You could paint your rooster in any coloration you desire, but be honest with yourself, you prefer the rainbow rooster. Whatever you're making, have fun with it! Happy Makery!
