HOLIDAY: Decorating Ball Ornaments

The Winter holidays are coming up quickly. My family celebrates Christmas, but in a non-religious way. I know...but it's hard to explain. Anywho, it's time to start decorating. Alex and I found these large clear plastic ornaments at Michaels, that we plan on decorating as presents. To get some inspiration, I searched around the internet to see what DIY ornaments I could find. Most are by my favorite crafters. I found a lot of great ones, but narrowed down my selections to these 18...which is still a lot. I'll post our creations after they are done, just for some more inspiration. Ok, on to the tutorials.

FILLED
The most forgiving way to decorate these clear ball ornaments, is to fill them with things. The metal tops normally come off, which allow for the insides of the balls to be filled with anything you can fit in there. I recommend picking lightweight stuff that you don't want to remove later. You can seal up the top after decorating, which will keep any loose contents contained.

COVERED
Covering an ornament is a great way to update old ornaments. You can also combine this with the filling and paint options, depending on your design preference. Use clear balls, so your filling will show. Otherwise, you can use any type of old ornament. Though I've chosen ball ornaments, many of these will work for other shapes. Some of those longer ones would look great with glitter, salt, or snow. Just think creatively.

PAINTED
Another great decorating method, is paint. This is kid friendly, which we all need...especially for keeping them busy while you're doing other things. Use plastic ball ornaments, so it's kid safe. I'm going to try swirling paint inside, and possibly use some dimensional paint outside. I LOVE PAINT, so I'd want to play with all of these...and add glitter.
