NYC FASHION WEEK F/W 2013: Mara Hoffman

Mara Hoffman's Fall Winter 2013/2014 collection was inspired by gypsies and mystics. I love the geometrical and mystical look to the prints. The style of clothing is very bohemian and has a world traveler vibe. With tribal and geometric prints being so popular, this is a great artistic version of it. The use of flowing fabrics with chunky layers, is a great juxtaposition. Since Falls and Winters are fairly mild here in Virginia, this would be a great collection for this climate.

Of all these great outfits, I do have a few favorites. I love the 3rd look, a maxi dress with a gorgeous peacock and elephant print. I'm a big fan of maxi dresses year round. This would be a great piece any time of the year, because it's sleeveless and a light weight fabric. The print is whimsical, using classic images in a flattering way. My next favorite is the 9th look which is a blue maxi dress with printed trim. This is a dress that I'd actually consider making a similar one. I love the contrast of the bright blue and the placement of the busy bright printed fabric. Again the dress is light and flowing, which is beautiful when the wearer walks. It's a dress than can be dressed up or dressed down, so it's has great wearablity. My last favorite is the 12th look, which is another printed maxi dress. This one has a lot of fullness and is only semi-structured at the top with the contrasting black fabric. It flows from that point, which can work great on a variety of body types. You can look and feel fabulous without form fitting clothing. This dress is probably better suited for transitioning from hot to cold and vice versa, as well as warm weather. For cold weather, it would be great with some thick tights, boots, and a chunky long cardigan. Over all this collection is elegant and beautiful. I've chosen many pieces from this collection to share here, but to see the full runway show, watch the video at the bottom of this post.
