PARIS FASHION WEEK F/W 2013: Etam Lingerie

I don't normally write posts about lingerie, but when I saw Etam's Fall Winter 2013/2014 Lingerie Collection, I knew I had to make a post about it! This was a live broadcast fashion show from France. Much like the Victoria Secret ones we're used to here in the USA, it had musicians performing while the models were walking. However, unlike Victoria's Secret, all of this clothing is wearable...even the fantasy inspired things!!! It proves that creativity and wearablity in lingerie can exist in a runway show. This show was split into 5 mini collections. My favorites were the 1st, 3rd, and 5th collections. I'm a huge fan of the gothic and floral aesthetic of these collections! There is a nice pairing of hard and soft looking pieces together. I'm really into bustles now, so the long flowing skirts and ruffled bottoms really piqued my interest. The corsetry and lace are a classic lingerie staple, which were used in ways that felt new. The 2nd collection was basics in bright prints with white accessories and colorful body painting. Basics are a must, but compared to the other mini collections, it wasn't as interesting. The bright colors do freshen the basics, which adds a unexpected choice. The 4th collection was swimwear, which unlike the lingerie, was surprisingly not very flattering on the thin models despite the interesting designs. Lingerie and swimwear do go well together, as the shapes can be very similar. Perhaps the models they chose for that we're the right fit. Though I've shared a lot of photos in this post, to see the full runway show and hear the live music, watch the video at the bottom.

  1. Well, I don't normally write posts asking women (who aren't my wife) about lingerie, but I have to ask: do you know what the thinking was behind the trains and the hoop skirt? I mean, I laughed when I saw the pictures, but this is a serious question. Are they included, like the hats and capes, as dressing to give the show some zing, or are they seriously intended to be part of the lingerie? I'm just wondering...

    1. They are probably just for the show, but I'm not familiar with this company and how much of their runway garments they actually produce. The influence for the trains and bustles are probably Steampunk, burlesque, and vintage style lingerie. The capes seems to add more softness to that section. Though capes in general can be practical, the sheer ones shown aren't practical for regular wear. Hope that helps. Also, I'm glad to know that a guy thinks those are goofy paired with lingerie. They seem more like show pieces, which would be useful if the wearer is a performer.

  2. I like the capes and hats and agree the hoops are probably just for show (for lingerie, from a practical standpoint, they would be a nightmare)!

And I wish all those models would eat something before they evaporate!

    1. Think of most models as moving hangers. They are meant to show off the clothing, but not distract from it with their body types. That being said, since many people aren't used to seeing fashion models, the size of these statuesque beauties can be distracting from the clothing. I'm a slender gal, so some of these girls are like looking at my own body. However, in the bathing suit portion, their tiny size was evident...which it is more so on me in one piece swimwear. Perhaps all the great swimwear designs would work better on a curvier body, but they weren't flattering on their thin bodies...which they wouldn't work well on my body either. That distracted me, but I'm picky about swimwear. If the smaller models had been put in bikini's they would have been fine. Also, since this is a French fashion show, I don't know how they prefer their models over American designers...then again that can vary with each designer.
