NYC FASHION WEEK F/W 2013: Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson's Fall Winter 2013/2014 collection didn't have her normal fun flirty outfits. This one was more athletic, which is her attempt at making her designs more wearable for the masses, since her major change in business strategy. The collection was very small, but that seems to be related to the style of runway show she put one, emphasizing the workout gear aesthetic to the collection. I'm a big fan of her designs, but this collection was lacking to me. There were some great work out gear, but the fancier dresses seemed out of place. I would have loved to see more work out gear with flattering quirky prints. Betsey's styling is normally great, but this time the wig choice was just distracting. This collection is definitely focused on a teenager-20 something, and the runway show confirms that, with all the models faux-chatting on their phone. I picked 6 outfits out of the collection that I felt worked the best, but I have no favorites. Maybe next season she'll have a better rounded collection.
