NYC FASHION WEEK F/W 2013: Alice + Olivia

Alice + Olivia's Fall Winter 2013/2014 Collection is like opening a fabulous closet of a stylish 30-40 something. I love well executed details, and Stacey Bendet always packs them it. The styling of these looks is quirky in a good way. The pieces wouldn't at 1st glance seem to go together, but when you step back and look at the finished outfit, they are perfectly composed. For me fashion is about playing with pieces in an unexpected way, and Stacey has done exactly that.

Of all these great outfits, I have a few favorites. The 15th look is a great juxtaposition of casual and formal with it's patterned sweater, studded leather jacket, and tiered ruffle maxi skirt. Though I'm not a fan of the hat, I do like the comfortable and a bit dressed up pairing. I was so inspired by this look that I wore something similar to dinner with a couple friends and their parents. The 17th look has a good balance between the boxiness of the jacket and blouse, the fullness of the short skirt, and the slender tall boots. I like playing with volume and shapes. This outfit has a playfulness about it without looking too young. The boxy and slender pairings make the skirt stand out more in contrast, but also tame it a bit. The 25th and 26th looks of 2 lace gowns is spectacular. I'm a big fan of lace and feathers. These two dresses are beautiful with or without the feathered peplums. There is something very sensual about these two materials on their own, but together it's even more tactile. The exposed peaks of skin in the cuts of the dresses add to that sensuality without being overly sexual. I love that coyness that lace lends itself to play with. I've selected a few looks to share here, but to see the full collection, watch the presentation video at the bottom of this post.
