NYC FASHION WEEK S/S 2013: Nanette Lepore

Nanette Lepore's Spring Summer 2013 Collection is full of bold prints and bright colors. Her collections are always cheerful, fun, and stylish. I'm not as colorful a person as I used to be, with my clothing, but her fashions always bring a smile to my face. There were several looks, but these are my favorites in the collection. I wouldn't normally think that gingham and damask would go together, but these work well. Of all these great pieces, my favorites are the 1st dress. I love a good gingham vintage inspired piece. The addition of the white with red and teal belt really updates this classic halter dress. My next favorite is the 9th look with the 3 color ways of the floral damask print. This is a very smart way to tie in the different colorations of the collection's print into one look. It's an unexpected form of color blocking that is very flattering. My other favorite is the last dress. Similar to the 9th look, it uses two of the damask prints to create a curved yoke separation at the shoulders. This can be a hard look to wear if you are like me and have wide shoulders, but I've embraced my awkward body and wear what ever I want. If anything, something with a strong shoulder focus can visually decrease the width of your shoulders, by making the viewer think it's the garment that is causing that. I'm a fan of puffy sleeves because of that.
