NYC FASHION WEEK S/S 2013: Milly

Milly's Spring Summer 2013 Collection feels very futuristic and sleek. I love the predominate black, white, and silver with pops of color. I love the creative color blocking and piping which shows off the curves a woman's body. The layered elements are nice too. They make me rethink how I wear my close neck halter tops and tanks. Using sheer fabrics like chiffon, clear vinyl, lace, and mesh are a great way to layer with lightness. Of all these interesting pieces, my favorites are the 8th look with the layered halter over the tank, paired with a black mini skirt. This is a great example of how you can layer for Spring and Summer without overheating. My next favorite look is the 18th look that is a black body conscious dress with white piping, over a mesh raglan sleeve top. Black and white is a classic striking combination. The placement of the piping and use of a stripe create interesting curve definition along the body of the model. The mesh raglan sleeve top adds a geometric texture to the look. The structure of the top is mostly covered in this outfit, but it can be better seen in the last look. My last favorite is the 19th look which is a black mesh and lace dress over a pale yellow tank.  This is a great look that is sexy without being overly revealing. The length and use of lace shows off the legs. The skirt volume is playful and great for someone with wide hips, as it's a free moving skirt. The layering of the dress over the colored tank is a great way to have a pop of color, but in a toned down way. Overall this collection has lots of great flattering details and ways to layer pieces.
