Eating snow...beware of yellow
As children, we have all eaten snow. We know to avoid snow that isn't well, snow colored. I didn't realize until recently, that you could collect snow in a clean container, then make foods and drinks with it. Granted, they will all be cold treats, but it's a neat idea. Here are some different ways to consume this frozen wonder.
Snow Cream
1) Collect snow in a large clean bowl. You will need about 8 cups.
2) Add 1 14oz can of Sweetened Condense Milk, 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract and sugar (to taste) to the bowl of snow.
3) Mix to combine and serve immediately.
Snow Slushies
1) Collect snow in a large clean bowl. You need about a gallon.
2) Add 1 pack of Kool-aid and 1 cup of sugar to the snow. You can use juice instead if wanted
3) If you would like an alcoholic slushie, add 1-2 shots of clear rum or vodka per glassful to the mixture.
4) Stir ingredients together.
5) Spoon mixture into glasses with large straws or straws and spoons.
Snow Cones
1) Collect Snow in a large clean bowl. You will about 1 cup per person...more if you want larger portions.
2) Scoop snow into paper cones, short glasses or small bowls.
3) Drizzle snow cone syrup over the snow. If you don't have or can't find snow cone syrup in the Winter, you can make your own with either of the 1 recipes below.
Snow Cone Syrup with Artificial Flavor
1) In a saucepan, stir together 2 cups white sugar and 1 cup water.
2) Bring to a boil, and boil for about 1 minute.
3) Remove from heat, and stir in 1 packet of Kool-aid.
4) Allow to cool, and store in a container for pouring.
5) Pour over snow to flavor. Store any extra in refrigerator.
Snow Cone Syrup with Fruit Juice
1) Add 1 cup of water and 2 cups of white sugar to a pot.
2) Bring mixture to boil. Stir as it comes to boil. Boil for 1 minute.
3) Remove the pan from the stove and allow the water and sugar mixture to cool.
4) Stir in a small amount of fruit juice to mixture.
5) Pour over snow to flavor. Store any extra in refrigerator.
