NYC FASHION WEEK S/S 2013: Alice + Olivia
Alice + Olivia produced an amazing Spring Summer 2012 collection. It's as if they created a wardrobe for fantastic lady who loves vintage inspired clothing. It's very rare that I like every piece in a collection, but I love this one. I've shared all of the images from their collection below. I wish I could own it all, but alas I can't. Sniff. I have several favorite pieces...if I had to pick any favorites. I love the length, shape, and cut of the 2nd dress. It's bright and cheerful. It's very modest, but the print makes it more fun than prudish. I love the green and kitch of the 12th look. I've noticed that some designers make really great dresses, but have problems with separates. Alice + Olivia don't have that problem. The print of the green skirt works well with the green and white striped shirt, and the green printed Peter Pan collar blouse. The white cardigan adds some balance to this predominately green ensemble. The 17th look is a dress with rainbow stripes on a white background. I love a good rainbow that is well balanced by a neutral background. The cut is very flattering. I love how the stripes are vertical on the bustline, which minimizes it, but also gives it better shaping. The horizontal stripes of the skirt work well with the circle fullness at the bottom. With such a full skirt that is wider at the bottom, vertical stripes can get cut off at the seams, making the construction look unflattering and sloppy. The stripes on this dress are very well done and thought out. Another separates look that I love is the 27th look. I try to avoid shorts if possible, so through out Spring and Summer, the shortest pants you will see me in are knee length. The slightly cropped jacket plays off the pant length nicely. It appears to have a dark sequin stripe in it's pattern, which adds a nice sparkle and stripe variance. The scalloped polka dot top mimics the sequin shape and uses similar blue shades as the jacket has. Overall Alice + Olivia's collection is fun and well put together. These looks show a wide range of styles, from day to nice, from office to weekend fun.
